Happy New Year.  The days are short and dark and I figured I’d toss you a critter from the Lost Sea Expedition series. This fellow is called an ammonite, a bright critter, perfect to brighten up your day a bit.

Actually, we’re not really sure what color the ammonite was. That’s where folk artist Charie Frye comes in. We asked him to illustrate the Lost Sea Expedition TV series with bright creatures and he didn’t disappoint.

Related to the chambered nautilus, the ammonite swam in large schools in the Lost Sea, the ancient sea that once covered the Great Plains. The name is a reference to Ammon, an ancient god that was depicted with a ram’s horns.

All the best in 2017!
